Now for the good stuff…
Q: I identify as a woman and I like watching girl on girl porn. Am I lesbian?
V: Thank you for your question! It’s exciting to know that you’re exploring your sexuality in various ways — Porn being one of them.
It should be noted that the type of porn we watch does not necessarily define our sexuality. Believe it or not, a lot of women like yourself watch lesbian porn. In fact, studies have shown that 63% of women prefer lesbian porn. Pornhub and Buzz Feed collaborated to look at statistics on their website which showed that women were 445 times more likely to watch lesbian porn than their male counterparts.
This is not to say that everyone who watches lesbian porn identifies as heterosexual. But a lot of heterosexual women watch it to learn more about their sexualities. It could also be a space to understand pleasure and what it means to you.
As for your question around being a lesbian — lesbians are people who experience sexual and sometimes romantic attraction to someone of the same gender identity. It is possible that most people learn they are a lesbian by watching porn, or experiencing attraction to someone in person. My advice would be to continue to explore your sexuality. Go through the motions and understand the type of attraction you feel (or lack of) towards women, whether on screen or in person.
The bottom line is, porn is a great way to learn more about our preferences! Sometimes fantasies are fantasies and they don’t need to mean anything if you don’t want it to.
Hope you found this helpful,
Varuna
